Country Nursing Lead
General Purpose of this Job
- Responsible to coordinate the CCS team and support the clinical teammates within the assigned country with the implementation, development and maintenance of:
- Quality programs and quality improvement initiatives;
- Policies and Procedures (P&Ps);
- Clinical risk management and patient safety programs;
- Clinical education and ongoing mandatory in-service training;
- Patient education programs.
- Assists in implementation and monitoring of country clinical goals to achieve desired results.
- Works in conjunction with the Country Chief Medical Officer and Operations Team to determine country goals and priorities.
- The function of each individual may vary depending on the needs and structure of the business.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Responsible for the clinical performance of DaVita’s Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Vascular Access clinical services teams as applicable within country.
- Responsible for the overall management of the countries clinical services team and clinical education teams as applicable.
- Supervises clinical services teammates within assigned country including the hiring, promotion, correction, professional development, and discharge of teammates in conjunction with the People Services Manager.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Patient safety:
- Monitor adverse occurrence reporting and investigation process within the country;
- Ensure appropriate reporting of serious and critical adverse occurrences and supervise appropriate root cause analysis;
- Supports with the appropriate follow up on adverse occurrence investigation process;
- Provides follow up of critical adverse occurrences and those involving multiple patients and supervises the sentinel event review from a nursing perspective;
- Supervises clinical teammates within their area of responsibility to ensure appropriate maintenance of safe clinical environments.
- Oversees the clinical due diligence process and ensures required action plans are communicated and followed up.
- Quality improvement:
- Promote and lead country Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities;
- Monitor implementation and report on country CQI initiatives.
- Attend the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings on a routine basis or ensure the CSS are attending and providing feedback.
- Policy and procedure:
- Ensure country procedures are aligned with the requirements of International policy;
- Coordinate the P&P review and development process in accordance with policy;
- Identify issues that require the establishment of clinical Policies and Procedures;
- Recommend to the relevant International document owner modification to existing International policies or development of new policies;
- Ensure regular review and implementation of country procedures.
- Education:
- Ensure that all new clinical teammates complete the appropriate DaVita training programs;
- Identify specific training needs within the country and implement action plans;
- Ensure the timely completion of clinical training including mandatory in-service education programs;
- Direct the implementation and revision of training materials;
- Identify and communicate professional development needs and ensure a continuing education program is in place within the country;
- Direct on-going education support for the clinics.
- Compliance/Regulatory:
- Ensure adherence to the DaVita compliance program;
- Ensure that proper documentation is submitted to the appropriate regulatory agencies;
- Provide oversight of the audit process(s) to ensure regulatory compliance and consistency in approach;
- Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and practice guidelines that impact nursing practice.
- Management and Leadership:
- Provide coaching and clinical leadership to the Clinical Services Specialist, Clinical Educators and Head Nurses;
- Ensure the team is providing support for and development of the clinical preceptors / mentors.
- Participate in operations review process, provide reports with analysis as requested;
- Participate in new product evaluations and ensure the best choices related to materials/ equipment’s / services directly related to clinical area;
- Allocate resources according to country priorities;
- Develop a collaborative and unified team.
- International requirements:
- Works closely with the International Nursing Lead;
- Provides reports to International clinical team as required;
- Communicates any requests for policy changes to the International nursing Lead;
- Attends International Nursing Lead meetings;
- Ensures P&P and quality programs are implemented in accordance with International requirements;
- Supervises the implementation of International clinical and quality program at country level.
- The Country Nursing Lead is responsible to coordinate a range of quality initiatives in their country including special projects and complex programs.
- The Country Nursing Lead is responsible to ensure appropriate support and education is provided to Teammates in their country.
- The Country Nursing Lead is responsible to support the country management team to achieve action plans to support achievement of country clinical goals.
- The Country Nursing Lead will receive a regular (weekly) update on the activities of the teammates under their direct supervision.
- The Country Nursing Lead is responsible to oversee BLS, privileging, and competency assessments for all Teammates as applicable.
- The Country Nursing Lead is responsible to oversee the root cause analysis and action planning process to address areas of non-conformity.
- The Country Nursing Lead is responsible to review AOR monthly, to ensure actions plans are in place to address areas of concern and to lead the nursing investigation of critical adverse occurrences
Minimum Qualifications
Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, including computer skills as required
- Bachelor and/or Master degree in Nursing is preferred but individuals with experience in leading a quality improvement program will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior position in Renal and post basic.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in Quality Management and Improvement in a healthcare facility.
- Familiar with clinic accreditations.
- Knowledge in Regulatory requirements, i.e. CKAPS.
- Must demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, demonstrated leadership skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to approach staff about quality issues with tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills needed, strong organizational ability required.
- Outstanding skills in data collection, analysis, and presentation.
- Experience in the use of spreadsheets (i.e. MS Excel) for QI-related data management.
