Calculating Your Glomerular Filtration Rate
What's My Level?
These are five stages of kidney disease. Your glomerular filtration rate (GFR) - considered the best way to measure kidney function by medical professionals - allows your kidney care specialist to know the extent of your kidney disease. By understanding it, you can learn how to control and make changes to certain lifestyle habits in order to slow down the decline of your kidney function. You need a simple blood test to determine the GFR level. Use this GFR Calculator tool to help you determine the level of kidney disease you are currently experiencing.
What Does Your GFR Decision Mean
Fully healthy kidney function is measured at a GFR of around 100, which means that the kidneys are functioning at 100 percent. Your kidney function is still considered normal if the GFR is 90 or higher. If your GFR is 45, you know that your kidneys are working at about 45 percent of the normal rate.
